TRANSPORTATION IN TURKEY

1. There are two important types of transportation in Turkey: Railway transportation and highway transportation.
2. Highway vehicles (trucks, buses, cars, etc.) transport 90% of the passengers and 75% of the cargo in Turkey; but trains carry only 5% of the passengers and 25% of the cargo.
3. Now, we can compare the costs of trucks and trains.
4. We want to transport 1500 tons of cargo.
5. One truck can carry 10 tons, but one train wagon can carry 50 tons.
6. We need 150 trucks but only 30 train wagons for 1500 tons of cargo.

7. 1 train wagon can carry 50 tons. | 1 truck can carry 10 tons.
8. 1 train wagon costs $30,000. | 1 truck costs $30,000.
9. 1 locomotive costs $2,000,000. | 150 trucks cost $3,600,000.
10. 1 locomotive + 30 wagons cost $2,900,000.

11. Now, you can see which costs less and which costs more.
12. There is another advantage of railway transport.
13. We can use a train wagon for more years than we can use a truck.
14. We have to think about the cost of fuel these vehicles, too.
15. Trains use coal but trucks use petrol.
16. We all know petrol is more expensive than coal.
17. That's why trains are more economical than trucks.

AMY'S RESTAURANT

1. Amy's restaurant is an example of a good place to eat in Greenwich Village.
2. It's a perfect place for students to eat lunch and dinner.
3. It's clean, the service is fast and the prices are reasonable.
4. Amy's has a different special every day.
5. The special includes fish or meat, vegetables, a mixed salad, bread and butter, dessert and cofee or tea - all for $3.45.
6. The special and the other items on Amy's menu are always excellent for the prices.

SMALL CARS

1. When you go out, you can see a lot of cars, buses and trucks on the road.
2. The streets are always very crowded.
3. Today, many people would rather use small cars.
4. Small cars are cheaper and they are more economical because you can save petrol and you spend less money.
5. These small cars are also safer because they can't go more than 100 kilometers per hour.

6. In the future, a lot of people will probably use small cars, and probably these cars will use electricity so there will be less pollution in cities.

Not: Bu metinle birlikte future tense/gelecek zamana da giriş yapmış olduk. There will be, "there is/are"ın gelecek zamana çekimlenmiş hali oluyor.

HOME SWEET HOME

1. For many British people, a house is the most important thing in their lives.
2. In fact, 60% of the population doesn't live in rented housing.
3. They would rather have their own houses, but prices are going up all the time, and many young people have not got enough money to buy a house.
4. They live in small flats or in their parents' house (even when they are married).
5. Prices are especially high in the southeast of England.
6. In the north, and in Scotland, prices are quite low.
7. Young people often buy old houses, perhaps more than a hundred years old because they are not so expensive.
8. But they have to spend a lot of time and money on repairs and decoration.

LAURA

1. Laura Denison, famous singer and star of top twenty, was born in Bristol in 1953.
2. Her parents originally came from Ireland.
3. Laura's father was a customs officer on the Bristol docks.
4. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago.

5. Laura, who is an only child, grew up in the suburbs of Bristol.
6. She started her education at a local school and then moved to a large, modern comprehensive school in another part of the city.

7. After leaving school when she was 18, Laura went to Bristol University to study history and economics.
8. She stayed there for three years.
9. When she was at the university, she joined a university music group, and started to sing.
10. It was at this time that she wrote her famous song 'The Price of Peace'.
11. When she finished university she joined another group and began to earn money with her performances and songs.

12. When she was 21, she married Tony Harper, who was a student at that time.
13. They have two children - a boy and a girl.
14. When they got married they rented a beautiful farm house in a suburb of Bristol.
15. They are still there but only a few days ago they decided to leave Britain and move to Los Angeles.

7. When they arrive, I have to take them to their hotel, and then tomorrow I have to take them on a bus tour of the city.
8. I'm free on Sunday, but I must do some housework.
9. So I'm afraid I can't come down to Torquay now.
10. But I think I can visit you in October.

11. Wouldn't you like to come to London for a day or two instead?
12. I'd love to see you.
13. You can help me with the tourists.
14. What about next week?
 
ON ALTINCI METİN

EDUCATION AT HOME (1)

1. Some children in England don't go to school but they study at home.
2. Do you think it's right?

3. Our reporter, Jean Anderson, went to talk to some children.
4. The Richardsons live in a big old house, 20 kilometres from London.
5. The family is large - two girls and three boys.
6. Our reporter visited them on a Wednesday morning.
7. The children were at home.
8. She heard music inside the house, a piano and guitar.
9. A normal family?
10. A normal day?
11. Yes, but in one way the Richardsons are very different.
12. The children don't go to school.
13. Their parents, Marian and Roger, teach them at home.

14. Jean Anderson spoke to Marian Richardson.
15. Marian said:
16. "My husband and I don't like the schools in our town.
17. We don't think the teachers are very good.
18. The children don't learn much.
19. Some children at these schools can't read.
20. It's terrible.
21. Go to the schools and look:
22. The children faght; smoke and drink.
23. Roger and I both teachers.
24. We can teach them more at home."

25. Jean Anderson aslo spoke to Ginny.
26. Ginny is one of the daughters of the family.
27. She said:
28. "We all love music.
29. I play the piano and Donald plays the guitar.
30. My parents are very good at music and languages.
31. The schools here are very bad.
32. We learn more at home.
33. I think we're lucky."

Okumam yazmama gore cok iyi ama yazmamida hic yoktan kelime olarakta gelistirmek istiyorum. Sinav formati iste anliyacagin.

Evet kitapta her metnin altında anlayıp anlamadığını test eden sorular var. Sanırım tam istediğin format.

Temel akademik kelimeleri içeriyor.

Bir de bizim hocamız YDS'de Reader 2'den daha zor metin çıkmaz diyordu. Tabii onun yalancısıyım, kendim tecrübe etmedim henüz.
